In the spring time of 2019, 278 strawberry plants of various varieties and origin were purchased. In total, 108 samples were tested by either real-time PCR or ELISA for the presence of the following eight strawberry viruses: SMYEV, SCV, SVBV, SMoV, SLRSV, ArMV, TBRV, and RpRSV. The aim of the study was to monitor the presence of these viruses in strawberry plants available in chain stores and horticultures in the Czech Republic. Four strawberry plants were tested positive (4 %), in all cases SCV was detected by real-time PCR; in one sample, SMoV was also present. ´Senga Sengana´ was the most infected variety. Symptoms were also evaluated, however, their presence or absence were not correlated with a specific viral infection, since symptoms were generally unspecific, and on contrary, strawberry viruses can persist in asymptomatic plants, and can be detected only by suitable laboratory methods.
