Remote Sensing data wereused for assessing some parameters of curve number method for predicting runoff from a watershed (Kalidevi, district Dhar, M.P) having total geographical area of 3019.26 ha. The remote sensing as well as ground data was collected during rainy seasons of 2004 and 2005. In this study IRS-1D (LISS III and Pan) data were used to identify the land use pattern of the watershed. Thematic maps for soil type, drainage pattern, forest boundary, slope and contour have been generated through digitizing the maps for the watershed obtained from SAC, Ahemdabad and SOI toposheet (46J/14) at 1:50,000 scale with the help of ERDAS soft ware. The total runoff from the watershed (measured at three different locations) were 93.31and 150.36 cm during the years 2004 and 2005 respectively which is 46.15 and 65.15 % of the rainfall recorded on the events of runoff. USDA Soil Conservation Services (SCS) Runoff Curve Number (CN) model was used to predict the runoff from watershed area. The computed values with the help of Curve Number particularly at moderate rainfall were very close to observed values during both the years. It indicated that remote sensing data are very useful in predicting runoff from any area having black clay soils with moderate topography
