This paper provides a comparative analysis of modern spark ignition engine exhaust systems with emission control elements (with and without catalyst fitted) by developing a complex functional phenomenology simulation study. The issues of depollution systems (with reactive catalytic element) for spark ignition engines are discussed, but in particular the possibilities of performance improvement by exhaust process simulation. The exhaust system architecture and the catalyst are considered to have a great influence on the exhaust gas process and the performance of spark ignition engines. Modelling and simulation of the exhaust systems of these engines can provide a number of design solutions and optimisation plans to reduce pollutant emissions and fuel consumption, while engine power performance will not be greatly reduced. Today, in Europe, pollution standards and energy independence from oil are increasingly being addressed and are actually high on the agenda. The present paper studies the modelling of new engines and the simulation of existing systems, but with some major improvements that must meet the current requirements of low pollution and low fuel consumption.
