Znaĉaj monitoringa zdravstvenog stanja domaćih i divljih životinja na širem podruĉju Stare Planine u zaštiti zdravlja životinja na pašnjacima

Stara planina represents a region with rich wildlife and at the same time with free range livestock breeding (grazing on the pastures) which leads to possiblecontact between wildlife and livestock, as well as humans in this region, which makes possibility of spreading different diseases. “One Health Concept” defines animal and human health as one entity and in that light constant monitoring of wildlife and domestic animal as well as human health on this region is necessary. Number of viral, bacterial and parasitic diseases of wildlife is important from zoonotic aspect as well as from aspect of potentional spreading the disease among the domestic animals, but also the importance of certain diseases on the wildlife itself in the aspect of conservation of these animals. This monitoring process understand the collective work of a team composed of rangers, biologists/conservationists, hunters, gamekeepers and veterinarians. Because of specific diagnostic approach in wildlife, veterinary pathologists are most impor tant in this monitoring process, because they are the first to observe and inter pret pathological changes characteristic for different diseases.
