Growth and survival of white lauan (Shorea contorta) and almon (Shorea almon) in mine tailings dumpsite as affected by mycorrhiza
2003
Casidsid, L. A.
A study on the effects of mycorrhizal inoculation on the growth and survival of white lauan (Shorea contorta) and almon (Shorea almon) was conducted at the abandoned mining area of the Sabena Mining Corporation, Camanlangan, New Bataan, Compostela Valley Province. After nine months, inoculated seedlings showed higher numerical values compared to uninoculated ones, Inoculated white lauan and almon are 11 % and 29.5% higher than uninoculated seedlings respectively. Mycorrhizal inoculation significantly affected the percentage survival of almon but not that of white lauan. However, mycorrhizal inoculation did not significantly affect the diameter and height growth of both species. The results showed that mycorrhrizal inoculation can be applied to S. almon planted in abandoned mining site. Further studies on mycorrhizal inoculation at different pH levels and temperatures must be studied to determine its effect on the activities of mycorrhizal fungus.
