Significant economic losses due to the high prevalence of lameness in sport horses are a well known problem. Any progress in prevention, diagnosis, treatment or prognosis in this area would therefore be very significant. In medical practice, laboratory diagnostic determinations are most often used for diagnosing and prognostic monitoring of diseases. Today, analytical laboratory methods and procedures are mostly being developed for the so-called biomarkers, ie biochemical indicators of diseases of individual organs, whose concentrations can be measured by biochemical blood tests. When the mechanical integrity of the tissue is endangered by the disease, heavy loads and trainings, the symptoms become noticeable with the progress of the disease. However, the diseases often go undetected in a subclinical form, for that reason, the significance of the mentioned analyzes is greater. By biochemical examination, the level of biomarkers of bone and cartilage metabolism is determined, which are formed as products of tissue formation or decomposition. The study of biomarkers with the aim of monitoring skeletal development, disease prevention and monitoring of the therapeutic protocol, is a significant step in medicine, for several reasons. Insufficiently researched area enables us to conduct more detailed research, provide more relevant data and open space for new achievements in the field of preventive and diagnostic medicine, which is also the goal of this paper.
