Usability of hazelnut husks and empty hazelnuts pelleted with different additives as alternative forage source
2017
Ozcan, U.
This study was planned with the aim of determining nutrient contents and in vitro true digestibilities (IVTD) of empty hazelnuts (EH) and hazelnut husks (HH) pelletted with molasses, urea+molasses, corn and sepiolite. In the study, there were total 16 treatment groups (4 sepiolite added groups and 4 non- sepiolite groups for each EH and HH). Daisy incubatorD220 was used to determine the IVTDs of the feeds. The SPSS pocket programme was used for for statistical evaluation of data obtained in present study. The crude protein (CP) contents of HH and EH were 8.79-16.89 % and 6.96-16.93%, respectively.Sepiolite addition did no affect the CP content of HH. The HH had highest IVTD value. The sepiolite addition decreased the IVTD value of HH and increased that of EE. This indicates that there is no need of sepiolite addition for HH, but sepiolite addition affects the digestibility and CP content of EE positively. With respect to forage quality there is no difference between EH and HH. All of the feeds were included in the lowest quality class. But, urea and molasses addition were found to significantly affect the CP contents of EH and HH. The highest IVTD values were found for corn added EH and HH groups. It was concluded that special attention should be given to the sepiolite and corn addition in pelleting process of hazelnut harvest wastes
