Root length is one of the most important parameters closely related to nutrient and water uptake, lodging, stress tolerance and yield of a plant. Many genetic and environmental factors effect root elongation rate, which in turn shows significant flexibility in the morphology and physiology of the roots. Furthermore, root elongation measurements shows several advantages as a fast phytotoxicity test method in terms of high sensitivity, simplicity, low cost and suitability to chemicals or samples with low stability.
