Changes in population and growth patterns of C. rotundus were monitored for 2 years in a dry-seeded rice (Oryza sativa L.)-mungbean [Vigna radiata (L.) Wilzeck] cropping system. The study was conducted in five different fields of a toposequence. C. rotundus was the major component of the initial weed flora of all treatments in all fields in all seasons. The continuous use of one hand weeding decreased the density of biomass of C. rotundus across time. With the use of herbicides, density tended to increase across cropping seasons though some reduction in biomass was observed in some fields. Less C. rotundus was observed in the lower fields compared to the other fields regardless of weeding treatments and cropping seasons.
