The response to spacing of two high-yielding semi-dwarf rice varieties was studied. Highest grain yield per unit area was obtained in IR-36 at 20 x 20 cm spacing and Suweon 258 at 10 x 10 cm spacing. The variation in grain yield of both varieties at different spacings was due to relative changes in yield components. Spacing failed to alter height of both varieties, but panicle number and increase in dry weight were significantly affected
