Effect of foliar ground application of nitrogen on the yield of jute

A trial was conducted at the agronomy field laboratory of the Bangladesh Agricultural University , Mymensingh. The trial was laid out in a complete randomised block design with three replications. There were four foliar applications of nitrogen namely 5, 7, 9 and 11 days interval in 9, 6, 5 and 4 times respectively. Another treatment was the application of nitrogen half at sowing + half at six weeks after sowing. In addition to 27 lbs of nitrogen application/ac , all the plots were uniformly treated with cowdung 4110 lb + P205 10 lb and K2023 lb per acre. The results revealed that the foliar application of nitrogen with 11 days interval applied four times produced the highest amount of fibre (2780 lb/ac) and stick (4740 lb/ac). This response was found to be identical with the treatment of half a sowing + half at six weeks after sowing as top dressed
