Vegetative seaward expansion of Sonneration alba trees in Malaysian mangrove forest
1982
Holbrook, N.M. (Harvard Univ., Massachusetts (USA). Dept. of Biology) | Putz, F.E.
Observations made were based on a belt of Sonneratia alba trees located along Tanjong Tuan Forest Reserve Coast, Melaka. Clone size was estimated. A 30 x 70 m plot was surveyed; the number and d.b.h. of stems and the number of places where branches had rooted was recorded for each clone. Results indicated that Sonneratia, unable to either spread seaward through seedling establishment or to compete successfully with the advancing Rhizophora trees maintained its pioneering position through vegetative seaward expansion
