In the sclerotia and apothecia of the fungus Sclerotinia sclerotiorum the polyamine spermidine could be detected. Further experiments revealed: (1) The amount of spermidine differs widely in the sclerotia of different crop years. (2) The concentration of spermidine is two to three times higher in the apothecia than in the sclerotia. The main portion of the polyamine is located in the top of the apothecia. (3) During germination of the sclerotia, the concentration of spermidine increases in the stipes. (4) After the formation of the apothecia, putrescine could be determined in the sclerotia and stipes in considerable quantities. (5) The same compound was found in the apothecia. In contrast of the results obtained with spermidine, the main part of putrescine is located in the stipes
