Experience with triticale in Schleswig-Holstein with regard to questions of plant protection

Alemán. Breeding of triticale (hybrid from rye and wheat) started at the end of the 19th century but it took a long time until strains with sufficient yields became available. The Polish strain 'Lasko' has been cultivated for several years and seems to be well adapted to growing conditions in Schleswig-Holstein. In spite of its low susceptibility to diseases 'Lasko' reacts towards fungicide application with an increase in yield. The use of growth-regulators can be handled in the same way as in other cereals. 'Lasko' and other strains of triticale react towards herbicide application nearly as susceptible as rye. The relatively high content of amino acids and proteins renders it more attractive to game, especially to rabbits
