Jute seed at farm level [a survey report on the production constraints and quality of jute seed at farm level, Bangladesh]
1987
Khandakar, A.L.
The survey on the production and the quality of jute seed at farm level has been completed in its two years research programme. There is a dearth of knowledge on the stage of seed harvest. The seed moisture content mostly remains above the safety level. At farm level, the seeds are very poorly stored. The quality of the market seeds were also equally poor. In average, about 40% of the farmers were found to use sub-standard seed. The seed rate at farm level is very high and amounts to an average of 5 fold use of seeds than the actual requirement. The extra seedling taxes the land for nutritional status, increase the weedling cost and finally raise the cost of fibre production at farm level.
