The response of major crops to sulphur in agricultural soils of Bangladesh - an overview
1986
Mazid, S.A.
This paper presents the results of 4504 fertilizer demonstrations on rice, wheat and mustard conducted on farmers' fields in 73 Upazilas located in different agro-ecological zones of Bangladesh over a period of three years from 1983 by DAE with the assistance of the FAO/UNDP Fertilizer Demonstration and Distribution Project. Results have shown that 97% of the demonstration sites were deficient in sulphur. Yield data from 3368 fertilizer demonstrations on rice indicated that the deficiency of sulphur in soils of Bangladesh is much more widespread than was reported earlier. The demonstration results further indicated that sulphur deficiency is likely to occur in calcareous and con0796tinuously submerged soils and its application on rice is more profitable in the monsoon than in the dry sea
