Effect of sodicity on growth and chemical composition of Diplachne fusca (Linn.) P. Beauv, an alkali halophyte
1987
Qadar, A. (Central Soil Salinity Research Inst., Karnal (India))
Diplachne fusca, was found to be highly tolerant to the levels of sodicity. It showed a positive response to sodicity (upto pH 9.8) in terms of total dry matter production because of high ash content and organic matter. The per cent dry weight was lower at those sodicity levels where stimulation in growth was observed. A well regulated distribution of Na, K and P were noted among laminae, leaf sheaths and stem parts. Relatively younger parts have less Na than older ones, whereas reverse was true for K and P. Leaf sheath which had the highest concentration of Na, K and P seems to play important role in regulating their concentration in other parts
