Feasibility study for fish farming at Azraq [Jordan]
1986
There is a considerable potential demand for fresh water farm-reared tilapia in Jordan at a retail price of about JD 2,500/kg equivalent to a farm price of the order of JD 2,000/kg. The water resources at the Azraq pools could support a farm with an annual production of 400 tonnes of fish, with negligible loss of water to the swamps, and such a farm would be both financially and economically viable at the prices indicated. Farm viability decreases with reducing price of fish, becoming totally unprofitable at a farm price of JD 1,000/kg. The use of fresh water only for the hatchery wou1431ld reduce the output of the farm from 400 to 340 tonnes annually, without any corresponding benefits, and this would have the effect of reducing farm viabi
