A new oat variety "Megwiri", which has growth habit from spring to summer season, good quality for forage, high forage yielding capacity, was developed by Wheat and Barley Research Inst, Rural Development Administration in 1986. This variety was introduced from Linz Agricultural Experiment Station, Austria in 1983. After seed multiplication, Yield Performance Trial (YPT) was conducted from 1984 to 1985, followed by Regional Performance Trial (RPT) from 1985 to 1986, and then named it "Megwiri". It's heading and maturing date, being May 29 and Jul 10, were later than that of Paldanghomil by 31 and 17 days, respectively. It's culm length and number of panicles per m2 were shorter and less, but number of caryopses per panicle and 1,000 grains weight were more and heavier than that of Paldanghomil. It was noted that ''Megwiri''has the higher forage yielding capacity than the ''Paldanghomil'' by 7 % at each heading date of both varietie0710s in RPT, also by 125 and 697 % in growth habit test seeded at May 20, Aug 20, respecti
