A kind of paddy weed in the southern areas of Korea, the sensitive joint-vetch (Aeschnomene india L.) was tested to evaluate its productivity and the possibility as forage or green manure. When harvested twice a year in Aug and Oct and when the stubble left in height about 20 cm above surface, the yield in fresh weight was about 6.2t/10a. The drying rate was about 35 %. Nitrogen fixation ability of the sensitive joint-vetch was about 2.8 to 5.6 times higher than that of indigenous species of R. Japonicum. The total nitrogen content in the leaves and stems were about 4.7 % at flowering stage. The effect as green manure to the paddy rice was recognized when we compared with control plot, but lower than that of milk vetch (Astragalus sinicus L.) with no chemical fertilizers, and0942when the chemical fertilizer was applied the effect was more or less similar to the milk vetch. It was considered that the sensitive joint-vetch could be cultivated after early seasonal cultivation of paddy rice in the poorly drained soils or as single crop in the swamp idle l
