A field experiment was conducted in the paddy soil with long-term application of compost from 1967 to 1985 to find out the changes of soil physico-chemical properties on growth and yield of rice crop. Different fertilizers e.g. "Control", "N P K", "Compost", and "Compost and N P K" were treated on a silty loam textured Typic Haplaquepts (Pyeongtaeg series). Compost application improved the physico-chemical properties of the soils by decreasing hardness and bulk density, by increasing porosity, available water, and organic matter content. Positive correlations between content of organic matter and physical properties in the field were observed.1336Yield of polished rice was increased 19 % in the annual application of "Compost" compare to "Control" treatment, and 3-9 % in "Compost and N P K" compare to the treatment of "N P K". The soil resistance such as shearing resistance, cone index or friction resistance etc. were also improved so as to give convenience to agricultural mechanizat
