Comparison between the nutrient content of earthworm cast and the surrounding soil [Philippines]
1984
Domingo, E.C.
Earthworm cast and soil samples from different localities were gathered and chemically analyzed for organic matter, total nitrogen, exchangeable calcium, magnesium and potassium and available phosphorus. Results showed that earthworm cast is more fertile than ordinary soil. The organic matter, available phosphorus and exchangeable magnesium of the castings were 1.6-1.9 times higher in the earthworm cast than 0-15 layer of soil, respectively. Surface soil with higher organic matter content had correspondingly higher organic matter in the earthworm cast. This relationship, however, did not reach any level of significance
