The ATP content in the growth apices and particularly the value of the ratio of ATP in the apices to its quantity in the leaves were correlated with the transition of the winter and spring rape plants to the generative phase. The increase in ATP content in the growth apices above its level in the leaves started already during vernalization1682in cool chambers and at natural autumn temperatures and progressed during the generative morphogenesis of plants. In contrast to above the plants of winter rape remaining during the vegetative phase in the glasshouse at 20-17 degrees C showed a constant ATP level in the growth apices equal to that in the lea
