Fungal biodeterioration of vegetable seeds in Singapore
1985
Lim, G. | Raghavan, L. (National University of Singapore (Singapore). Dept. of Botany)
Seeds of 19 species of locally grown vegetables were examined for fungi. The majority of the seeds showed germination between 50% and 90%. Most of the fungi recorded were common to both rinsed and non-rinsed seeds. The most prevalent fungi found associated with seeds were species of Aspergillus, Penicillium and Rhizopus of which A. flavus, A. niger and P. citrinum were the predominant ones found on nearly all the seeds. Alternaria was associated specifically with seeds of Brassica species. In most cases, the associated fungi did not adversely affect seed germination
