Effect of heat and chemical treatment of lucerne forage and barley grain on protein and dry matter degradability in the rumen of sheep

Lucerne forage from s2048econd cut before flowering was heated at the temperatures from 60 to 200 degrees C for various periods of time and at differentiated humidity. Barley grain was preserved with 2% of urea and or 1% of propionic acid, alkalized with 3.5% NaOH or heated at 200 degrees C for 0.5 h. Samples were incubated in dederon bags placed in the rumen of sheep. Acid detergent insoluble nitrogen (ADIN) content was increased by heat treatment.
