At Geoagiu Fruit Research Station, in order to find the most suitable vegetative rootstocks for the ultra-high density orchards it was studied the behaviour of Starkrimson and Spur Golden (Perleberg 3 selection) grafted on G 21, M 9, M 26 and M 106 vegetative rootstocks. When we have used planting spacings of 3.5 m between tree rows and 0.5 m (G 21), 0.8 m (M 9), 10 m (M 26), 1.5 m (M 106) between trees along the row (trees being trained as Pillar, it was possible to get in the 6 th year after planting over 40 t/ha when the trees were grafted on G 211168and M 106. Fruit yields ranging between 30-37 t/ha were recorded with the trees grafted on M 26 and M 9. After coming into bearing, it should be maintained a constant balance of growing and fruiting by application of adequate prunings and other management practices of tre
