The influence of the content of sodium, potassium and chlorine ions (Na + K and Cl-) in feed was investigated in 130 day-old chickens of Jata provenience. The va1355rious ion quantities investigated were 1, 8, 24 and 40 mekv/100 g of feed. In the case when feed with the largest differences among Na+K-Cl- was used there was a significant weight reduction, this being a consequence of metabolic alkalosis. When chickens were given feed with smaller difference between cations and anions (1 and 8 mekv/100 g) acidosis and weight gain reduction occurred in some anim
