Analysis of mineral status of leaves for predicting fertilizer requirements of coconut in North Sulawesi
1984
Kaat, H. (Balai Penelitian Kelapa, Manado (Indonesia)) | Mahmud, Z.
Fertilizer application is an effective method for increasing the shortterm productivity of coconut. The various coconut areas in North Sulawesi differ in their soil and agroclimatic conditions. Consequently they require different types and amounts of fertilizers. In order to determine the optimal fertilizer requirement for different areas, leaf samples from representative palms were drawn in four districts of North Sulawesi in 1982, and were chemically analyzed. For chemical analyses the leaves were taken from the 14th sheath of tall palms of more than 20 years of age. Results showed that mineral content of leaves varied among locations in a district, some being above and some below the established critical levels. This research shows that optimal fertilizer requirement should be established separately for individual locations.
