Biotic potential of Heliothis armigera Hb. (Lep., Noctuidae): influence of host-plants and their distribution on the infestation of planted areas
1988
Hmimina, M. (Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique, Meknes (Morocco))
The present work describes two experiments set up to establish the relationship between host-plant and rate of development, reproduction and weight of pupae of Heliothis armigera Hb. A comparison of net reproductive rate (Ro) showed the best growth occurred on cotton flower buds followed by synthetic diet, tomato fruit, maize cobs, cotton leaves, alfalfa or potato leaves. Larvae did not survive on tomato leaves. The other comparison between insects collected from different host-plants in the field showed considerable differences in the weight of pupae according to the host-plant. This work showed a seasonal sequence of major host-plants supporting successive generations
