The effect of leaf age on susceptibility of strawberry to infection by Mycosphaerella fragariae
1989
Harrison, G.L. (Auckland Univ. (New Zealand). Dept. of Medicine) | Stewart, A.
Leaf age was shown to have a significant effect on the susceptibility of strawberry to infection by the leaf spot pathogen, Mycosphaerella fragariae (Tul.) Lindau. Young rapidly expanding leaves (1-4 weeks old) were highly susceptible to infection and a large number of characteristic red/brown lesions were formed. Bud leaves and leaves older than twelve weeks at the time of inoculation were found to be resistant to infection. Several factors that many determine the difference in susceptibility of different aged leaves to infection are discussed
