The yield per recruit model is an important tool to assess a single year class fishery such as banana prawn fishery. The paper describes the relationship between biology parameters and yield per recruit for banana prawns (Penaeus merguiensis de Man). Data were collected from carapace length measurement of these prawns caught in the south coast of Java (Cilacap area) during the period of June, 1983 - May, 1984. This results showed that yield per recruit values (Y/R) vary with growth parameter (K), natural mortality rate (M) and fishing mortality rate (F). Maximum yield per recruit (Y/R max) was obtained on various range values of F. The low values of M and K gave Y/R max at the low value of F. On the contrary, Y/R max at high value of F was reached at high value of M and low value of K.
