Fenaughty, J.M. | Uozumi, Y. (Far Seas Fisheries Research Lab. Shimizu (Japan))
The Japanese research vessel Shinkai Maru carried out a random trawl survey of the Chatham Rise off the east coast of the South Island, New Zealand, in March 1983. Catches from the 127 trawls in the depths of 877-809m were used to calculate biomass indices for the main catch components. Biological and size-frequency data were collected for the major catch species. Hoki was the most common fish and occurred in most trawls over 200m. A biomass index of 1,772,000t of hoki was calculated for the entire survey area. Size of hoki increased with depth
