Ocean monitoring: a myth or amiss?
1989
Jillett, J. (Otago Univ., Dunedin (New Zealand)) | Portobello, M.
Costs associated with ships and other observational platforms have severely limited the accumulation of extensive data bases for the open ocean in the New Zealand region. Remote sensing by satellite offers opportunities to monitor a wide range of sea surface characteristics including temperature, primary production, surface waves, eddy systems, coastal upwelling and mass transport. Biological indices, such as condition; growth and survival, in selected animal populations could be used as integrative measures of environmental conditions
