Soil columns in perlocations tests are during and after the sprinkling practically in a state of water saturation. If in the course of the experiment a lower water content of the column soil shall be maintained to approach near natural conditions, a corresponding water tension has to be provided. Tests with light sandy soils, as applied i.a. in the pesticide registration procedures for testing perlocation behaviour, showed that with a suitable modified test equipment during the prescribed sprinkling a soil moisture of 30-40 per cent of the maximum water capacity can be adjusted. If there is by additional sprinkling intervals a capillary ascent facilitated, a marked delay of downward movement of water due to evaporation can be observed, when the columns are filled with soil up to the rim. The rate of pesticide movement did not change considerably
