Investigations on the fate of pyridate in plants and soil

Four different susceptible weeds (Atriplex sp., Solanum nigrum L., Viola tricolor ssp. arvensis L. and Zea mays L.) were investigated in order to compare uptake, translocation and metabolism of pyridate (Lentagran(R)). The tolerant maize was less retentive than Solanum nigrum. This is one reason for differences in tolerance. Additionally different patterns of metabolism, especially for Atriplex spp. and V. tricolor accounted for differences in tolerance. In soil transformation of pyridate to its metabolite CL 9673 was very fast (DT50 over or equal 1 day). CL 9673 was more persistent with a DT50 ranging from 16 to 40 days under aerobic conditions depending on soil type. CL 9673 persisted longer under anaerobic conditions. The amount of non extractable radioactivity increased until the end of the experiment in all investigated soils
