After a well-founded description of the concept as basis of the WEIZENMODELL BAYERN to integrate plant protection measures in an optimal way against fungal pathogens of foot-, leaf- and ear diseases of wheat the steps of development of the model are explained. Firstly pathogen-specific thresholds had to be achieved by epidemiological work in contrast to other assessments of decisions. The biological thresholds are described with reference to the original literature. The success of using the model in different wheat crop systems under a high pressure of different pathogens is demonstrated exemplary together with epidemiological data and the avoidance of yield losses. There is a short report about experiences after employment the model in experimental stations in Bavaria 1989 and 1990. In 1990 for the first time 27 farmes were working with the WEIZENMODELL BAYERN, details about the results in one region (Lower Bavaria) can show the flexibility of the system. By the high acceptance of the concept and its practical use in 1991 the model was practised together with 90 farmers in Bavaria, the results in respect of indications and number of treatments are summarized. The principles of the system are biological orientated thresholds, which can be used, thoroughly acquainted with the rules, by well educated farmers, consultants and in field experiments to take into account the ideas of integrated control of pathogens in wheat crops
