The spread of rhizomania and of the fungus Polymyxa betae on the territory of Czech Republic has been investigated since 1982. In 1990-1991 the occurrence of rhizomania was not determined serologically on the territory of Czech Republic. With respect to soil and climatic conditions it is difficult to find infected soils. Polymyxa betae was determined in 64.4 % of samples, its occurrence can be presupposed in all soils suitable for sugar beet growing. Its occurrence is influenced by soil reaction (pH 6.0-7.0) and by Ca content. No dependence on the content of N, P, K, Mg and of humus was found.
