A reduction of erosion effects induced by sprinkler irrigation on sloping plots

Novotny, M. (Vyskumny Ustav Zavlahoveho Hospodarstva, Bratislava (CSFR))
Steeply sloping plots can be effectively used for the growing of fruit-bearing trees and grapevine while the economics of these cultures depends on irrigations. The rise of water erosion due to sprinkler irrigation on the more than 5 % slopes can be avoided by application of the admissible rain intensity and admissible irrigation period. The interrupted regime of the irrigation rate is another convenient practice. The size of the area irrigated with one sprinkler can be controlled by the adjustment of the spray angle and the angle between the sprinkler vertical axis and the horizontal axis.
