Seven indigenous species - six dipterocarps and one non-dipterocarp-were planted under pine plantation in three different locations viz. Paya Jaras Forest Reserve, Sungei Putih Buloh Forest reserve and Bukit Lagong Forest Reserve. The objective is to monitor the growth performance of these indigenous species planted under the pine plantations. The six dipterocarps are Drybalanops aromatica, Hopea odorata, Shorea leprosula, S. macrophylla, S. parvifolia, S. roxgurgii and the non dipterocarp is Dyera cosulata. At 2 1/2 year after planting results show that height growth of these species varies within and between sites. For example, the height growth of Drybalanops aromatics in Sungei Buloh F.R. varies between 20.0 cm to 130.8 cm. Similarly, the mean height growth of this species varies between the three sites. 77.6 cm in Sungei Buloh F.R., 68.9 cm in Paya Jaras F.R. and 44.1 cm in Bukit Lagong F.R. Detailed results of this trial are discussed.
