Describes the results of a survey of 67 villages to characterize cassava producing areas and develop a database for providing directions for future research and extension programmes. Results show that 86% of villages intercrop maize with cassava. A wide variety of crops are also interplanted. The major pest is perceived as the cassava mealybug. Production risks for cassava are reported as drought, pests and diseases, animals and theft. Cassava leaves are an important vegetable source. Labour availability is a constraint with female labour playing a major role
