Effect of the mechanical cut of the seed-tubers of different sizes and the density of planting on the yield of two potato cultivars

Inglés. In the 1983 the whole seed-tubers of 28/35 mm have been compared with portions of tubers obtained with mechanical cut of the following sizes: 35-45 mm:2; 45-50 mm:3 and 50-55 mm:4. They have been planted at the following density: 5.5; 6.1; 7.0 and 8.3 tubers or their portions/m2. In the following two years time, 1984-1985, the following new thesis of cut tubers has been added: 28-35 mm:2 and 50-55 mm:5. Furthermore also the density of 4.4 tubers or portions/m2 has been added. The thesis has been carried out using the cv. Primura (early, with long-oval tubers) and Ernterstolz (middle-later, with round tubers). Generally the bigger tubers, even if cut, have shown less efficiency than the ones with more little sizes because they have given a lower number of stems forunit weight. In both cultivars the quantities of seed-tubers to be planted in one hectare (tab. 4), the number of stems/m2 (tab. 6) and the yield (tab. 7) have increased progressively with the density of planting. The commercial production has appeared to be in proportion with the number of stems/m2 (fig. 1). From all the results obtained the optimal density planting allows to permit the minimal quantity of seed-tubers of hectare and to the maximum yields are of 6.1 portions/m2 for tubers 35-45 mm:2,45-50 mm:3 and, solo "Ernterstolz", 50-55 mm:4; and of 5.3 tubers/m2 for 28-35 mm int. and, only for "Primura", portions/m2 of 50-55 mm:4. The use of tubers of 28-35 mm:2 and 50-55 mm:5 is not advisable. The implication of the cut and of the density seed-tubers planting on the quality of the commercial yield have been discussed

Italiano. [Nel 1983 tutti i tuberi-seme di 28-35 mm sono stati paragonati con porzioni di tuberi ottenute con taglio meccanico delle seguenti dimensioni: 35-45 mm:2, 45-50 mm:3 e 50-55 mm:4. Sono stati piantati alle seguenti densita: 5.5; 6.1; 7.0 e 8.3 tuberi o loro porzioni/m2. Nei successivi due anni, 1984-85, sono state aggiunte le seguenti nuove tesi di tuberi tagliati: 28-35 mm:2 e 50-55 mm:5. Inoltre e stata aggiunta anche la densita di 4.4 tuberi o porzioni/m2. La tesi e stata svolta con l'uso di cv. Primura (prima, con tuberi oblunghi) e Ernterstolz (medio-tardi, con tuberi rotondi). Di solito i tuberi piu grandi, anche se tagliati, hanno mostrato meno efficacia di quelli con piu piccole taglie perche hanno fornitoun numero minore di steli per pesounitario. In entrambe le cultivar le quantita di tuberi-seme da piantare in un ettaro (tav.4), il numero di steli/m2 (tav.6) e il rendimento (tav. 7) sono aumentati progressivamente con la densita della messa a dimora. La produzione commerciale sembra essere in proporzione con il numero di steli/m2 (fig.1). Da tutti i risultati ottenuti la densita ottimale di messa a dimora permetteuna minima quantita di tuberi/seme per ettaro e i rendimenti massimi sono di 6.1 porzioni/m2 per tuberi 35-45 mm:2, 45-50 mm:3 e, solo "Ernterstolz", 50-55 mm:4; e di 5.3 tuberi/m2 per 28-35 mm int. e, solo per "Primura", porzioni/m2 di 50-55 mm:4. L'uso di tuberi di 28-35 mm:2 e 50-55 mm:5 non e consigliabile. Sono stati discussi l'implicazione del taglio e della densita della messa a dimora dei tuberi-seme sulla qualita del rendimento commerciale ]
