The combination Herkules plus Extravon has been tested since 1990 in post-emergent applications in maize for broadleaf weed control. Extravon belongs to the class of non-ionic surfactants. The addition of Extravon improves wetting and distribution of the spray solution of the leaf surface and improves uptake of the active ingredients. In trials with different additives Extravon was found to be the most suitable. The weed spectrum of Herkules was clearly improved by Extravon without the need of increasing the rates. The effects of Extravon varied between species and were particularly apparent on Chenopodium album which was well controlled by the mixture. The speed and reliability of activity were also improved by the addition of Extravon. A further important advantage of Extravon was in improving the rainfastness of Herkules
