Current status of forest plantation development in Sabah [Malaysia]

This paper gives an update on the development of plantation forestry in Sabah. The established tree plantation in Sabah is approximately 56,100 ha. The agencies that are involved in the planting programmes are Sabah Softwood Sdn. Bhd., Sabah Forest Industries and Sabah Forestry Development Authority. Matters pertaining to the objective of forest plantations development, availability of land and the major problems confronting the plantation forestry development and the research undertaken are highlighted. The need for Government incentive is sought so that the private sectors would participate in the programme in order to meet the shortfall of wood resources in the future
