Veterinary public health is an important and actively developing field in Malaysia. The activities carried out include meat hygiene and meat inspection; milk hygiene; control of zoonoses, environmental pollution from livestock wastes and drugs' usage in animals as well as residues in food products. Food hygiene is emphasized in this paper. The occurrence of food-borne diseases, particularly caused by bacteria and parasites as well as the presence of residues are discussed; The Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point system and the importation of livestock products are mentioned
