The computer-based advisory system PROPLANT: scientific background demonstrated for net blotch on barley
1993
Volk, T. (Institut fuer Pflanzenschutz, Saatgutuntersuchung und Bienenkunde, Muenster (Germany)) | Frahm, J.
At the Institute for Plant Protection and the Institute for Agricultural Informatics (both in Muenster, Westphalia) a computer-based decision-support system for cereal disease control was developed, called PROPLANT. It is already in use by farmers and consultants, primary in North Rhine Westphalia. This article gives some background informations about the knowledge bases. The biology of the fungi and the chemistry of pesticides are exemplary illustrated for net blotch on barley. The steps from the prechoice of diseases to the special diagnosis and the decision for treatment or not are shown. The scientific basis of the PROPLANT-system is a control strategy related to the amount of disease and infection probabilities. The infection probabilities are calculated from weather data and the fungicides are described in detail (for example their curative efficacy). Finally consequences of CAP for disease control and specially for the PROPLANT-system are discussed
