This paper addresses the questions on to what extent slash and burn is responsible to the present climatic changes and how will it affect the climate system, including its impact on local and regional hydrology. Deforestation may lead to changes in evapotranspiration and runoff but there no hard data. If it occurs in large individual areas, the rainfall may be decreased according to modelling studies.
