Silage making with addition of the lactic acid bacteria

Short review of recent research about inoculation of silage with lactic acid bacteria (LAB) was presented. Additional inoculation with LAB was recommended if dry matter content in the forage was above 20% and the water soluble carbohydrates content was at least 2 % of the fresh mass. Under such condition the fermentation could be controlled with selected suitable strains of the LAB what result in lower losses. The effect of inoculation was expressed more in the terms of animal production (intake, gain or milk yield) than in chemical composition of silages.
