The role of competition for predicting the syn-1 synthetic performance

The forage crop breeding procedures in use at the Lodi Institute is based on the mother plant choice in solid stand. Concerning the progeny test for the creation of synthetic varieties, the validity of the test made in monoculture solid stand was stated in previous papers. A synthetic variety is a mixture of genotypes. The study of the interference between the constituents of the mixtures permitted the formulation of a model for predicting the synthetic varieties performance based on the actual value of the partners in pure stand as well as on the ration between them.
