Agroforestry: an introduction to agroforestry and Victoria's agroforestry program
1994
Lyons, A. | Clarke, R. (Victorian Joint Agroforestry Management Committee (Australia)) (comp.)
The Victorian Government's Joint Agroforestry Management Committee provides the mechanism for coordinating agroforestry research, demonstration and extension activities in Victoria. The Department of Agriculture and Department of Conservation and Natural Resources share responsibility for conducting research and advising farmers on agroforestry. Under agroforestry, agricultural and tree growing enterprises are integrated and jointly managed. This increases total farm productivity by adding tree products (notably timber), diversifies farming, assists in control of soil erosion and salinity, improves the landscape and creates wildlife habitats. Costs and returns from agroforestry are discussed, and financial prospects for 3 agroforestry options are evaluated. There are now farmer networks in 5 areas of Victoria which share information and develop agroforestry systems which suit the particular area.
