Restricted Spring Growth (RSG) is a disorder of vine growth seen widely across south eastern Australia. The symptoms are uneven and delayed budburst, with retarded shoot growth and short internodes. They appear to occur at random within and between vineyards. However, except for isolated cases, affected vines normally recover and yield normally in the following season. It appears that there is no single effective cause, but a combination of climatic, cultural, and perhaps disease, factors that result in soft wood and insufficient starch reserves at the onset of winter.
